First Aid for Youth Mental Health

The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Successful learners can act as a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ in any environment which they may deal with young people.
Learners wishing to become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ for adults may wish to undertake the ‘FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health’ or the ‘FAA Award in Supervising/Leading First Aid for Mental Health’.

Course overview
Each year approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health condition, with 1 in 6 experiencing common mental health problems at work.

The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind, covering areas such as:
  • recognising a range of mental health conditions

  • 1-hour self-study online
  • 6-hours Guided learning over Zoom
Course access overview
Access to this course is restricted to 3 weeks. This is dictated by the awarding body which states that the course must be completed within three weeks as part of the qualification.

During this time, you will:
* have access to the course materials for self-study.
* You will need to book:
    * a Guided learning session
    * a Professional discussion session (Approx. 20-30 mins)

As you work through the online course, it will stop at the 'live' session, and you will not be able to go any further, but you will be able to go back, if you wish to review any of the materials.

The qualification is awarded by the FAA in association with nuco training and delivered through Prioritise Mental Health and Wellbeing.
